SUMMIT
TO ADDRESS KEY GLOBAL ISSUES
Travel and Tourism industry leaders from more than 50 countries will
gather in Pattaya, Thailand, October 2-5 to address the inter-dependent
linkages of tourism and global issues. It is becoming increasingly clear
that global issues are having severe impacts on tourism, and at the same
time, growing recognition that the world’s largest industry can contribute
significantly to the resolution of certain of these issues – and to the
U.N. Millennium Development Goals.
One Earth One Family:
Travel & Tourism-Serving a Higher
Purpose Theme of the 3rd
Global Summit is "One Earth One Family: Travel and Tourism- Serving a
Higher Purpose." Its aim is to develop a 21st Century Agenda for Peace
through Tourism that addresses key global issues of our time.
Within the context of
this Summit theme - leaders from government, industry,
U.N. and development agencies, and civil society will come together to
debate:
- A Strategic Tourism Industry Response to
International Terrorism;
- A Sustained Travel Industry Response to
the Social and Economic Revitalization of Tsunami Affected
Countries;
- The Travel and Tourism Industry
Contribution to Poverty Reduction;
- Healing the Wounds of Conflict through
Tourism, Culture and Sports;
-
Role of Tourism in Advancing the U.N. Millennium Development
Goals.
