Conference Announced at World Travel Market

announcement Of 4th IIPT African Conference.

IIPT Founder and President Louis D’Amore has
announced that the 4th IIPT African Conference will be held in Uganda in
March 2007. The announcement was made on the World Stage, Opening Day of
World Travel Market. The Conference will be organized in partnership with
the Africa Travel Association.
In making the announcement, D’Amore said:
“IIPT is honored to be hosted by the Government of Uganda

for its 4th African Conference - a country, which under the leadership
of President Museveni, has emerged as a model of modern Africa and a force for peace
and stability in the Great Lakes Region.” |
The Conference will bring together senior
executives from both the public and private sectors of tourism as well as
donor agencies and related sectors including economic development,
culture, sports, wildlife and the environment.
In addition to featuring prominent keynote
speakers and case studies of ‘Success Stories’/‘Models of Best Practice,’
Pre-Conference events will include three Forums: Educators Forum,
Student/Youth Leadership Forum, and for the first time – a Traditional
Leaders Forum. As well, the Pre-Conference Program will include half-day
training workshops in selected topics.

“The 4th IIPT African Conference will provide
Uganda the opportunity to establish further partnerships and strategic
alliances in our continuing aim to reach new markets, develop new
products, and enhance global awareness of Uganda’s uniqueness as a
destination in tandem with our recently launched promotional campaign
“Uganda – Gifted By Nature.” The 4th IIPT African Conference builds on the
foundations of previous African conferences in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga
Province, South Africa (2001); Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (2003); and
|
Lusaka, Zambia (2005). As well, it builds on three Global Summits on
Peace through Tourism, Amman, Jordan (2000); Geneva (2003); and
particularly the most recently held Summit in Pattaya, Thailand this
past month that resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Pacific Asia Travel
Association (PATA) and the Africa Travel Association (ATA). |
Special efforts will be made to continue
building an ‘Asia – Africa Bridge of Tourism, Friendship and Solidarity’
leading up to – and during the 4th IIPT African Conference through the
implementation of the MOU.
Mira Berman, Africa Travel Association’s
Executive Director, said “The decision to host the 4th IIPT Africa
Conference on Peace Through Tourism once again places Uganda in a
leadership position in fostering sustainable tourism and regional
collaboration. As a founding member of IIPT’s Coalition of Partners for
World Peace through Tourism, ATA is proud to again to be a partner in the
Conference.”
The Conference is being organized in support
of the UN Decade for Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World
and the UN Millennium Development Goals.

STRATEGIC TOURISM INDUSTRY RESPONSE TO
INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM AT WORLD TRAVEL MARKET

IIPT brought together a panel of prominent
industry leaders to share their views regarding “A Strategic Tourism
Industry Response to International Terrorism on the ‘World Stage’ at World
Travel Market, London. Panelists included: Roger Dow, President and CEO,
Travel Industry Association of American; Elhamy ElZayat, Chairman,
Egyptian Tourism Federation; and Sandie Dawe, Director, Strategy and
Communications, VisitBritain. The panel was moderated by H.E. Senator Akel
Biltatji, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan who had personally experienced the
terrorist bombings in Amman a few days earlier.
Panelists briefly indicated the actions taken
in response to terrorist acts in their respective countries and stressed
the important role that tourism plays as a powerful force for peace by
helping us to understand and appreciate the diverse cultures, traditions
and values of our global family. Roger Dow quoted Mark Twain who said,
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” H.E.
Senator Akel Biltaji shared his personal experience as the first
government official to arrive at the site of the Hyatt Hotel bombing in
Amman.
PATA AND ATA RECEIVE WORLD TOURISM AWARD
The Pacific Asia Travel
Association (PATA) and Africa Travel Association (ATA) were recipients
of this year’s prestigious World Tourism Award on the ‘World Stage’
Opening Day of World Travel Market.
The award was presented
in recognition of the vision of both organizations in agreeing to
develop a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at forging an Asia -
Africa bridge of Tourism, Friendship and Collaboration.

a growing source of tourists for Africa, and the Asia Pacific region
is well aware of the attention being given Africa by G8 countries as

The Asia – Africa
Summit hosted by Indonesia and South Africa in Jakarta (April 2005)
provided the broad policy framework for the MOU which envisions
opportunities to enhance collaboration in market research and
awareness; more fam trips between the two regions; promotional efforts
to showcase products and services; and inviting more buyers from the
two regions to each others trade shows.
IIPT was proud to facilitate the MOU
between PATA and ATA and to have Presidents of both organizations
together at the 3rd Global Summit on Peace through Tourism
in Pattaya for discussions on the MOU. |
IIPT Launches World
Peace Travel
We are most pleased to announce the launch of
World Peace Travel as a Travel
Division of IIPT. The Aim of World Peace Travel (WPT) is to be a model of
tourism that exemplifies the ideals and philosophy of IIPT's vision of
promoting a "Culture of Peace through Tourism." Two tours are currently planned for 2006.
Three tours are being planned for 2006. Two
are indicated below and a third will be announced shortly.

Muscat Festival
February 1-11, 2006
Muscat,
the capital city of Oman in the Arabian Gulf, is the focus of the first
tour. In addition to the opportunity to see the spectacular sights
of this country (mountains, canyons, sea and desert) the tour participants
will be able to serve as hosts in the IIPT booth at the Muscat Festival
interacting with the local population and other visitors to the Festival.
The Muscat Festival is an annual event of Oman’s capital city. It is
held in the evenings (in a park near the ocean) so that tour participants
can spend each day sight-seeing and in the evenings, enjoying the festival
and people of Oman.

$2120 per person
The
cost includes: All transfers and portages; visa fees; two meals per
day in Oman; sightseeing and entrance fees; all hotel accommodations
(based on double occupancy) motor coach and driver and all guide services

Iran
April 29-May 9, 2006
The itinerary for the Iran tour will allow
for visits to Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Zoroastrian sites.
However, our goals will go beyond seeing the sights. The itinerary
will be planned so that there will be opportunities to meet and visit with
Iranians. We have tentatively planned an itinerary that begins April 29th
and concludes May 9th, 2006.
