IIPT is commemorating its 30th Anniversary with a Global Summit in Montreal, Canada, 17 to 21 September 2017. Save the dates and join us for this “Global Family Reunion” of the many persons who have participated in one or more of IIPT’s 18 international conferences and summits over the past 30 years. Renew your friendships with colleagues from around the world – young and old – and make new ones.
We are reaching out to everyone who has been to an IIPT Conference – and others not able to attend but wish to do so now – to share stories of the work you are doing – your projects – your current and planned efforts in fostering sustainable tourism and peace – explore how you might collaborate to achieve even more significant and greater impacts – and to determine how together we can broaden the circle of persons wanting to make travel and tourism “the world’s first global peace industry – a sustainable industry that fosters peace within ourselves, peace with others, peace with nature and peace with our Creator – an industry that supports and promotes the belief that every traveler is potentially an “Ambassador for Peace.”
The IIPT First Global Conference, Vancouver 1988 was a milestone event for the travel and tourism industry with 800 participants from 67 countries. The IIPT 1988 Vancouver conference has since been credited with being the “Launch of the Peace through Tourism” movement.
2017 is of course the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. The 1988 Vancouver Conference first introduced the concept of sustainable tourism, as well as a new paradigm for a “Higher Purpose” of Tourism.
IIPT is now returning to Montreal – where IIPT was born in 1986, the UN International Year of Peace, as Canada celebrates its 150th birthday and Montreal its 375th birthday as well as the 50th anniversary of Expo 67 – the most successful Expo of the 20th Century. Please join with us in promoting the Summit among your colleagues and networks. We also welcome your suggestions/ideas regarding the Summit to achieve the most significant impactful outcomes that contribute to resolving conflict and building a culture of peace and understanding through sustainable tourism.
We also invite your ideas regarding potential sponsors and your support for IIPT’s two flagship projects for its 30th anniversary year and the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (and Peace):

IIPT Flagship Initiatives for30th Anniversary Year: Peace Parks and Travel for Peace
IIPT also welcomes the members of our “Global Family” to join with us in promoting our two 30th Anniversary Year “Flagship” Initiatives – the IIPT Global Peace Parks Project with a goal of 2000 IIPT Peace Parks circling the earth by 21 September 2017 – the UN International Day of Peace; and the IIPT Travel for Peace Campaign.
The Global Peace Parks Project builds on the success of IIPT’s 1992 “Peace Parks across Canada” Project commemorating Canada’s 125th birthday as a nation. IIPT conceived and implemented “Peace Parks across Canada” which resulted in 350 Peace Parks being dedicated by cities and towns from St. John’s, Newfoundland on the shores of the Atlantic, across five time zones to Victoria, British Colombia on the shores of the Pacific.
Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first President and Dr. Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary General, are shown planting the first of 6 olive trees brought from Bethany Beyond the Jordan by Amman Mayor, H.E. Akel Biltaji.
A one-time voluntary contribution of US$ 500 is requested from each town or city dedicating an IIPT Peace Park. For more information mail to: ljd@iipt.org
The program aim is to create awareness among all travelers that the privilege of traveling provides them with a unique opportunity to learn more about our common home – planet earth, the wonder of its natural beauty, its diverse people, cultures and heritage – and in the process to foster mutual respect, understanding and appreciation with each person they encounter.
Organizations wishing to become charter members of the IIPT Travel for Peace Campaign in support of the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (and Peace) are invited to email: ljd@iipt.org. Appropriate recognition will be given to each charter member.
Charter members to date include: World Expeditions, Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG), Sacred Himalaya Travel, The Cultural Angle and Travel Unwrapped. A one-time contribution of US$ 350 is requested for charter membership in the campaign.
We invite members of our “Global Family” to assist us in promoting each of these campaigns in support of IIPT’s 30th Anniversary Year, the IIPT Global Summit in Montreal and the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (and Peace). For more information mail to: ljd@iipt.org with your expression of interest. Grateful for the opportunity to travel and experience the world and because peace begins with the individual, I affirm my personal responsibility and commitment to:
