Building Bridges of Peace, Culture and Prosperity
through Sustainable Tourism

Aim

Identify, encourage and develop tourism initiatives that will contribute to sustainable human, social, cultural and economic development in the 21st Century. Particular emphasis was placed on building two-way bridges among developed, developing and emerging economies of the world.

Objectives

  1. Present and discuss 150 ‘real life’ case studies of "Success Stories" from regions throughout the world.
  2. Conceive specific projects and programs for launching in the Year 2000.
  3. Create a "21st Century Agenda for Peace through Tourism".
  4. Provide a forum for leading thinkers and doers including researchers, educators, policy makers and practitioners interested in the vision of tourism as a global peace industry.
  5. Use the occasion of the Conference to contribute to the sustainable tourism aims of Glasgow, Scotland and the U.K. in the global context.
